I grew up just 300 meters away from the entrance of the world’s largest covered bazaar – Tabriz Grand Bazaar, one of the most famous markets along the Silk Road. My childhood was spent wandering through its ancient alleys, grand courtyards, and endless rows of artisans. I remember the scent of freshly dyed wool, the sound of looms weaving silk carpets that took months to complete, and the sight of craftsmen creating timeless treasures by hand.

The artistry, the patience, and the deep-rooted traditions of craftsmanship became a part of me. Even as life led me to earn a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and become a university professor, my heart remained with the handmade wonders of the Silk Road.

From the miniature paintings and delicate metalwork of Isfahan, to the reversible Turkmen carpets, the intricate woodcarvings of Afghan artists, the exquisite Baluchi needlework, the handwoven kilims of Turkish nomads, and the centuries-old art of Kurdish giveh (woven footwear)—every piece tells a story of heritage and tradition. In the bustling bazaars of Turkey, I marveled at the Turkish mosaic lamps, handcrafted with precision, each glowing piece a reflection of ancient artistry.
